Hi
I want to start studying windows 2003 server, Just wondered how i can go about this, I live in Manchester and finding it hard to find a course to go on. Ive find 1 or 2 which will cost me about 2500 does that sound about right,or is there cheaper out there???

You'll find the vast majority of us here agree with Headhunter regarding self study. I'll also suggest an investment in Microsoft's Technet Plus Direct for your software needs that won't expire plus gives you the latest and greatest Microsoft has that you can use for studying. Even my wife agrees its the best investment I've ever made (and she doesn't agree with me much ).
In my opinion, self study you work at your own pace, you absorb it better and Technet has plenty of labs to do, including virtual labs.
All you'll need is at least one good machine, more is better.

VMware and Virtual PC are nice but they bog down your machine. Of course this isn't a surprise but well....I have a separate hdd that I have enclosed in a hdd tray that I swap in and out one of my computers at home. It contains just Server 2003 Enterprise 180day trial version on it. Works well.

Well my one computer at home has 1GB of ram, now I installed 2000 and 2003 trial. I think I starved my own system dedicating too much memory for one over the other. I had like 320MB for one, then 256 for the other, if I ran 2003 and 2000 simutaneously, it was painfully slow. This was on top of my machine running XP Pro too by the way. At my work the Dells have just 512MB RAM. Not enough I tell you! I found a DIMM lying around and beefed it up to 768MB although 1GB is almost a minimum these days. I installed Virtual PC on the dell computer at work but I have other things running at the same time like Outlook 2007, Trend Micro antivirus, etc.

Nick, I have a P4 2.8ghz with 4 gigs of ram with Enterprise 2003 R2 DC on it and Virtual Server 2005, for which I allocated 2 gigs of ram for the host, 256 megs for another virtual DC 2003 R2, 512 megs for the virtual DNS/DHCP 2003 Standard Server and 256 megs for a virtual file/print 2003 server. My other machine is a duo core 2.18ghz with 4 gigs of ram, 2+ gigs allocated to it (XP Pro SP2) as I occasionally play some combat games on it (video intensive mostly but will suck memory if I have it), runs Virtual PC 2007 with Windows 98 (64 megs of ram for my old dos games), virtual Vista Business 784 megs of ram, another Vista Business virtual machine with 1 gig ram and XP Pro virtual with 160 megs of ram.
Another P4 box (3.2 ghz) with 2 gigs of ram is running Vista Enterprise and another identical box is running 2008 Server, two other boxes are waiting for 4 gigs each of ram - so I won't count this paragraph regarding the bogging down. Neither machine can I tell its really bogging down. Only when I play one particular game can I tell that performance wise, that it has degraded performance (lag time in game on game start - video refresh).
We're ordering new machines at work with minimum of 2 gigs (with Vista Business) as I have noticed a difference in performance between 1 and 2 gig identical machines. I'd like to see how much difference there would be with a 4 gig identical machine, but he won't just yet order me the ram I requested, so we'll see after the 1st of the year.

Unless you're running 64-bit Vista, you won't see a difference after 3GB or so due to 32-bit memory limitations. Theoretically, the limit is 4GB, but that's before video card memory and other address space consumption: link
