Hi all,

Im currently preparing for my Security+ test which I hope to take in about a month or so. I would like to get some test prep software, but would like to get some feedback before I shell out the money. Currently, I'm kind of leaning toward Transcender because they do have a good reputation and have been around for a while, but I am open to other suggestions.

Does anybody know if there is a web site that does test-prep software reviews..kind of like "Consumer Reports" (for lack of a better term) where the reviews are unbiased?

Thanks

I used to work for Transcender/Self Test. However, I left last year because I felt that their attention to quality was declining rapidly. Unfortunately, I am unsure of the quality of the Security+ product. Considering the alternatives, it's still probably the best product out there currently.

I don't know of any sites that offer unbiased test-prep reviews. CertCities used to, and they still might... but they probably don't have each vendor's product reviewed for each and every exam. Online and offline publications do annual readers' polls to find out which test prep products are preferred, and Transcender has come out on top for several years.

The best reviews you'll get are by posting to a forum such as this one. However, you might consider discounting my opinion, as I am biased - several of us are starting our own practice exam company. No products yet, but we're working on them.

I too, can't recommend anything as I've never used test prep software other than Boson for CCNA. It's still my opinion to just leave it be as most books have labs that teach you the material (so far). I've seen the transcender product once in action and I liked it, but that was years ago, but once TMichael gets his business going, I'll know I'll buy his products for any tough exam I'll face.

For the record, I would recommend the Syngress book.

Hi
I've used Transcender for Security+ last year and it was good.
I also support TMicael's recommendation for Syngress, I suffered so much from studying it from MS Press although it's a recommendation by CompTIA itself, so I had to re-study it from other sources like Syngress..

I prefere courses and books first. Because passing via a test prep would let you have a piece of paper (cert) only.
