Hi,
I was just curious about this CEH(Certified Ethical Hacker) certification. It is offered by EC-Council. Is it up to the standard or just a fluke? Any info would be appriciated. Thanks

Many people say it's a good certification to have. However, some companies would have serious reservations about hiring a "hacker", ethical or no. Personally, I can't see how someone can certify that an individual is "ethical" or not - I can answer questions all day long about being ethical and not be the least bit ethical myself.
I would say that the CEH is a good cert so have. It can add a new perspective to your MCSE/Security, CCSP etc. by showing you have knowledge from the other side of the fence. The ECT also builds on top of the CEH for their penetration certification.
Besides, The CPTS is a rather unknown cert. - CEH has been around the block for a longer period of time.

What's in a name, both certs are trying to help you protect your network by finding the holes in your security. I have heard good things about the CEH and I am hoping to take the class the end of this month. Which ever name it’s under the point is to show you tools and ways to check security on a network. How you or others use that information is up to the individual. Besides do you want to hire an "Ethical Hacker" or a "Penetration Specialist"?

Depending on the individual, I'd not have a problem hiring a CEH. I'm just saying that some companies will see the term "hacker" and back away.

There are some valid point in the above but CEH should show that the person who they would look to hire is skilled enough to comment on Security Matters, this would be enhanced if the person also has other EC-Council Certifications such as CHFI(Computer Hacking Forensics Investigator)and/or E|CSA(EC-Council|Certified Security Analyst) & LPT(Licenced Penetration Tester)
I am a Candidate on a CEH Course Next Month(Oct 06) but I am to upgrade this Qualification with other following CEH
I disagree with Mikey. Most companies would NOT hesitate to hire a CEH. The CEH continues to grow in popularity. Plus, the CEH is one of the few IT certs that is probably stronger internationally than it is in the US. But that is likely changing.
However, be aware that the CEH is not a beginners level cert. You need a few years experience to get the benefit from it.

I never said most. I said, "some". Some companies will back away. Many will hire. Again, I wouldn't have a problem hiring a CEH.
I just want to know what experiences you're basing your comments on. You're playing the fear card and I'm not sure that's appropriate in this case. You said very definitively that some companies would not hire those with a CEH. Anyone can make a general safe comment like you did. Some companies wouldn't hire a person with a MCSE. That's as true as your CEH comment. Does that mean you should shy away from a MCSE? Of course not.
The question is now much is it adding to the conversation if you make up the information you project as fact? You're sticking a few letters at the end of your name and making a few baseless comments. The reality is you have no idea, do you? Then just say that.
